About Dr Anila Hashmi
Dr Anila Hashmi, PhD, MSc, MAIMS is a medical scientist, researcher, and educator with over 20 years of experience in clinical pathology, diagnostic testing, and translational research. Throughout her career, she has been driven by a single mission: to bridge the gap between laboratory science and patient care by advancing diagnostic innovation, improving quality standards, and mentoring the next generation of scientists.
Her doctoral research focused on the discovery and validation of novel cancer biomarkers in solid tumours, addressing one of the most pressing challenges in modern medicine early detection and accurate prognostic assessment. Building on this work, Dr Hashmi continues to explore how novel discoveries can be integrated into routine diagnostics to improve patient outcomes and inform clinical decision-making.
Anila has held senior leadership roles across major diagnostic laboratories in Australia, overseeing laboratory operations, quality management systems, accreditation processes, and staff development. She has extensive expertise in ISO 15189 standards, assay validation, quality assurance, and scientific governance and has played a pivotal role in national and international collaborations aimed at advancing precision diagnostics.
A passionate advocate for education and professional growth, Dr Hashmi regularly mentors students, early-career scientists, and healthcare professionals. She is deeply involved in continuing professional development programs, serves on advisory committees, and presents widely at scientific conferences and professional forums.
Her contributions to the field have been recognised globally, including the prestigious ENDO 2025 Outstanding Abstract Award (Endocrine Society, USA) and the AIMS Research Engagement Grant as Principal Investigator. She is a certified member of the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (MAIMS).
